فَإِذَا فَتَحَهُ قُدَّامَ الْبَائِعِ فَإِذَا هُوَ حَصًى،
and when he opens it in front of the seller, he finds it is only stones,
قُدَّامَ — in front of. A place word, 'in front of', that works as a preposition: the noun following it is pulled into the (genitive) form and located relative to it. It pins where the opening happens.
