Knowledge is a carpet stepped on only by those close to it.
مُقَرَّبٌ — those close. A passive participle 'one brought near / an intimate', the subject of 'treads', restored by the exception as the lone exception, indefinite nominative. Only the God-drawn-near step on this carpet.
