الأَلْوَانِ — the colors. This definite noun sits in the possessed, 'of'-type ending because the action-noun before it owns it: 'the multiplying of the kinds'. Arabic builds 'X of Y' by setting the two nouns side by side with no word for 'of', and the second word takes this special ending to show it is the owned half.
