How to say “deny” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
إِنْ عَرَفُوا تَنَكَّرُوا،
If they knew, they denied it.
تَنَكَّرُوا — they denied. A past-tense 'they' verb with the doubled middle consonant of the intensive/reflexive pattern, here the 'made themselves act unknowing' shade. It is the response half of the condition, the consequence that follows from the 'if' verb before it.
