How to say “disputed” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
فَاخْتَصَمَتْ فِيهِ مَلَائِكَةُ الرَّحْمَةِ
Then the angels of mercy disputed over him.
فَإِخْتَصَمَتْ — then disputed. This is a past-tense verb in an elaborated pattern that adds a back-and-forth, reciprocal sense, so it means they argued with one another rather than one party simply acting. The '-at' ending makes it grammatically feminine singular, agreeing with the plural-of-things subject that follows, and the leading 'fa-' marks this as the next event in the story.
