How to say “mercy” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
فَاخْتَصَمَتْ فِيهِ مَلَائِكَةُ الرَّحْمَةِ
Then the angels of mercy disputed over him.
الْرَّحْمَةِ — the mercy. This definite noun is the second half of a two-noun 'of' pairing with 'angels' just before it: the angels belong to, or are characterized by, mercy. Arabic builds 'X of Y' by placing the nouns directly side by side with no separate word for 'of', and the second noun takes the genitive tail ending that signals it is the possessor in the pair.
