How to say “dog” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
الْمَثَلُ الثَّانِيُ الظَّبْيُ أَشَدُّ سَعْيًا مِنَ الْكَلْبِ،
The second example: the gazelle exerts itself more than the dog.
الْكَلْبِ — the dog. A definite noun 'the dog', the standard of the comparison, governed into the genitive by the preceding 'than'. Its al- marks the specific dog of the example. With the preposition it completes 'swifter than the dog'.
