How to say “essence” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
وَإِنَّمَا يَنْتَفِعُ بِالرِّياضَةِ وَالتَّأْدِيبِ مَنْ أَصْلُ جَوْهَرِهِ سَلِيمٌ،
And only benefits by exercise and discipline who his essential nature is sound,
جَوْهَرِهِ — his essence. This noun carries an attached possessor '-his' at its end and completes the 'of' pairing begun by the previous word, hence its (genitive) ending. The suffix '-his' points back to the unnamed person who is the topic, tracking ownership across the clause. So 'his essence' tells you whose essential nature is in question.
