How to say “root” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
وَإِنَّمَا يَنْتَفِعُ بِالرِّياضَةِ وَالتَّأْدِيبِ مَنْ أَصْلُ جَوْهَرِهِ سَلِيمٌ،
And only benefits by exercise and discipline who his essential nature is sound,
أَصْلُ — essential nature. This noun starts a small inner sentence describing the 'who': it is the topic, with its nominative ending marking it as what the description is about. It is also the head of an 'of' pairing with the next word. So it does double duty: topic of its clause and owner of the following noun.
