How to say “discipline” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
وَإِنَّمَا يَنْتَفِعُ بِالرِّياضَةِ وَالتَّأْدِيبِ مَنْ أَصْلُ جَوْهَرِهِ سَلِيمٌ،
And only benefits by exercise and discipline who his essential nature is sound,
وَالتَّأْدِيبِ — and discipline. The leading wa- adds this noun as a second item alongside the previous one, both being means of the same benefiting. Because it is coordinated onto a noun governed by bi-, it inherits the same (genitive) ending and 'by way of' sense without repeating the preposition. So it shares the instrumental role of its partner.
