How to say “find” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
فَلَمْ يَجِدْ إِسْمَاعِيلَ
So he did not find Isma'il.
يَجِدْ — he find. This verb sits in the clipped (jussive) form demanded by the 'did not' particle before it, with a singular 'he' subject built in. The trimmed ending is forced by the negation, and the present shape under it actually carries past meaning, 'he did not find'. The negation word is what dictates the form.
