Arabic vocabulary
How to say “flood” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
أرسل طوفان الفتن فغطى البحار الزخر،
He sent a flood of trials that covered the roaring seas,
طُوفَانَ — a flood. This noun is the thing sent and is also the first half of a possessive pair joined to what the flood is made of. As the leading noun it drops its own 'the' and takes definiteness from the word after it, building 'a flood of trials' with no separate 'of'.
