How to say “forgiveness” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
نَسْأَلُ اللَّهَ العَفْوَ وَالسِّتْرَ
We ask God for forgiveness and to conceal our faults.
العَفْوَ — forgiveness. This noun carries 'al-' (the) and is a second object of 'we ask', the thing being requested, so it too takes the object-style (accusative) ending. The verb here takes two objects, the One asked and the thing asked for, and this is the latter, named definite.
