Arabic vocabulary
How to say “four” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
وَسُلِّطَ عَلَى قَلْبِهِ أَرْبَعَةُ أَعْدَاءٍ
And four enemies were set upon his heart.
أَرْبَعَة — four. This is the number 'four', and grammatically it is the thing being set upon the heart, so it stands as the subject of the passive verb at the head of the sentence. In Arabic a counted thing and its number form a tight unit, and this number leads while the noun it counts follows it.
