Arabic vocabulary
How to say “hit” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
فَضُرِبَ بِهِ وَجْهُهُ،
so it is thrown at his face,
فَضُرِبَ — so it was thrown. This verb is passive: its inner vowels are reshaped so the action lands on something rather than being done by a named doer. Arabic marks the passive by changing the vowels inside the word, not by adding a helper like English 'was'. The leading 'so' ties it as a consequence to what came before.
