Arabic vocabulary
How to say “I keep away” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
وَإِنِّي لَأُجَنِّبُهُمْ سَلْوَتَهَا وَعَيْشَهَا
And indeed I do keep them away from its pleasures and its life.
لأجنّبهم — I do keep them away. This verb opens with an emphatic l- prefix that backs up the inna's certainty, and the verb is present first-person; tacked onto its end is -hum, the 'them' object. The l- is the grammar to note here, locking in the emphatic claim. So one word holds emphasis, verb, 'I', and 'them'.
