Arabic vocabulary
How to say “is defeated” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
وَجُنْدًا لَا يُهْزَمُ
and an army that cannot be defeated.
يُهْزَمُ — is defeated. A passive present verb 'it is defeated': the army receives the action rather than doing it. Arabic adds no helper word like English 'is/be'; it marks the passive by changing the inner vowels of the verb, which is why this looks close to its active twin but means the opposite role. Negated by the preceding 'not', it gives 'that is never defeated'.
