Arabic vocabulary
How to say “life” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
وَلَوْلَا ذَلِكَ مَا هَنَأَهُ الْعَيْشُ
And were it not for that, life would not be pleasant for him.
الْعَيْشُ — life. This noun is the delayed subject of the preceding verb: it is life that would (not) have been pleasant. Its al- makes it definite and the nominative ending marks it as the doer of the pleasantness. It trails its verb in the normal order.
