How to say “listen” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
اسمعوا وصفي للسلف فإني ألتذ بذكرهم التذاذ
Listen to my description of the predecessors, for I find pleasure in mentioning them.
ٱسْمَعُوا — you listen. This is a command addressed to a group, with the plural -u ending marking an order to more than one person. Arabic forms the imperative by stripping the verb to this bare order shape, the audience understood from the form.
