Arabic vocabulary
How to say “may move back” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
فَلَمَّا رَآهُ أَبُو بَكْرٍ ذَهَبَ لِيَتَأَخَّرَ
When Abu Bakr saw him, he stepped back to stand further behind.
لِيَتَأَخَّرَ — so that he might move back. The li- prefix marks purpose, 'in order to', and forces the following present verb into the subjunctive; the mood frames the stepping-back as his intended aim rather than a finished act. The 'he' subject is carried inside.
