How to say “midst” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
فجاءت البشارة في كانون اليأس بآمال تموز،
The good news came in the midst of despair with the hopes of July.
كَانُونِ — the midst. In the genitive because 'in' governs it, this month-name noun heads a possessive pairing, 'the dead-of-winter of despair', so it stays bare of 'the' and draws definiteness from the owner that follows. It sets the cold, hopeless season that the good news pierces.
