How to say “missed” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
حَتَّى فَاتَتْهُ الصَّلَاةُ،
Until he missed the prayer.
فَاتَتْهُ — it missed him. A completed-action verb 'it slipped away' carrying the object -hu ('him') on the end, so 'it escaped him'. The feminine ending on the verb agrees with its subject 'the prayer', which is feminine and named next, while -hu marks the man as the one it eluded. So the prayer is the doer here and the man the one deprived.
