Arabic vocabulary
صَلَاةُ is how you say “prayer” in Arabic. Hear it pronounced and see it used in a real example sentence from classical texts below.
حَتَّى فَاتَتْهُ الصَّلَاةُ،
Until he missed the prayer.
الصَّلَاةُ — the prayer. This is the subject of the verb just before it: 'the prayer', which slipped away from the man. It carries the plain subject ending, and its feminine gender is what made that verb take its feminine ending. Its al- (assimilating into the sun letter) marks the specific prayer he set out for.
