How to say “prevail” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
وَلَيْسَ الْعَجَبُ أَنْ يَغْلِبَ، إِنَّمَا الْعَجَبُ أَنْ يُغْلَبَ
It is not surprising that one should prevail; what is surprising is that one should be overcome.
يَغْلِبَ — one should prevail. A present verb pushed into its subjunctive shape by the 'that' before it; the changed ending is how you know it is governed by that particle. It is active voice (the subject doing the prevailing) and has a general, unnamed subject: 'that one prevail'.
