Arabic vocabulary
مَثَابٌ is how you say “recompense” in Arabic. Hear it pronounced and see it used in a real example sentence from classical texts below.
وأما الثواب فأيِّس منه ولا تأمن العقاب إلا بمثاب
As for reward, give up hope of it, and do not feel safe from punishment except through repentance.
بِمَثَابٍ — with a recompense. The 'bi-' marks the one safeguard the exception allows — 'by a returning [to God] / repentance,' indefinite, in the -i form. The only security against punishment: turning back. Otherwise, no safety from logic's spiritual peril.
