Arabic vocabulary
How to say “smoke” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
يَنَالُنِي حَرُّهُ وَلَا يُؤْذِينِي دُخَانُهُ،
Its heat reaches me, and its smoke does not harm me.
دُخَانُهُ — its smoke. A noun with -hu ('its') attached, and it is the subject of the negated verb before it, the thing said not to do the harming. Its final -u (before the suffix) is the plain subject ending, marking it as the doer rather than the receiver. The -hu points back to the same fire, so this is 'the fire's smoke'.
