Arabic vocabulary
How to say “strenuous” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
عمل شاق إِنَّمَا هُوَ عمل قلب
It is not strenuous work; rather, it is the work of the heart.
شَاقٌّ — strenuous. The describing-word trailing 'work' and matching its indefinite ending, as Arabic adjectives do. From a doubled root, it means 'wearying, back-breaking', the quality being denied of this inner labour.
