How to say “strike” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
فَهَمَّتُ أَنْ أَقْرَعَهُ بِالْعَصَا
I intended to strike him with the stick.
أَقْرَعَهُ — I strike him. A present verb in the subjunctive, its mood forced by the 'an' before it, carrying its first-person 'I' subject inside and a '-hu' (him) fused on as object. So one word holds verb, mood, subject, and object together: 'that I strike him'. The altered ending marks the subjunctive.
