Arabic vocabulary
How to say “summer” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
فَيُقَشِّرُهُ وَيُجَفِّفُهُ فِي الصَّيْفِ،
He then peels it and dries it in the summer.
الصَّيْفِ — the summer,. This noun carries the prefixed al- ('the'), marking it as a specific, known thing rather than just 'a summer'. Because the preposition before it governs it, its ending shifts into the genitive shape that prepositions demand. The leading l of al- assimilates into the noun's first letter, which is why you hear a doubled s rather than a clear 'l' sound.
