Arabic vocabulary
How to say “surround” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
وَ حَفَّتهُمُ المَلاَئِكَة،
and the angels surround them,
وَحَفَّتْهُمُ — and surround them. Again the verb comes first and takes a feminine ending to agree with the doer that follows, 'the angels.' The tail '-hum' is the object — the ones surrounded — attached straight onto the verb with nothing in between, which is how Arabic carries 'them' without a separate word.
