فَمَا شَعَرْتُ إِلَّا بِالْأَنْصَارِيِّ وَهُوَ يَقُولُ
I only noticed the Ansari while he was speaking.
بِالْأَنْصَارِيِّ — by the Ansari. The bi- is the link this sensing-verb takes for its object ('became aware OF'), fused to a definite name with 'al-'; the bi- holds it in the 'of' ending. It names the one suddenly noticed.
