Ibn Abbas, may Allah be pleased with them, said:
I waited for a year, wanting to ask Umar.
From the two women who conspired against the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace.
So I grew afraid of him.
One day he stopped at a lodging, and then he entered the thickets.
When he went out, I asked him, and he said.
Aisha and Hafsa — then he said —
We were in the Age of Ignorance; we did not regard women as anything,
Then when Islam came and God mentioned them,
We considered that for them, by that, a right upon us.
without bringing them into any of our affairs,
There was an exchange of words between me and my wife.
She spoke harshly to me, so I said to her, "And indeed you are there with them."
She said, "She says, 'This is mine, and your daughter harms the Prophet, may Allah send blessings and peace upon him.'"
Then I went to Hafsa and said to her.
I warn you not to disobey Allah and His Messenger.
And I went to her while she was upset.
So I went to Umm Salama and said to her.
So she said, "I am astonished at you, O Umar; you have entered into our affairs."
Nothing remained except for you to enter between the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, and his wives.
And she repeated it.
And there was a man from among the Helpers.
When he was absent from the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace.
And I testified for him; I came to him with whatever occurred.
If I was absent from the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him
And he testified that he came to me with what would come from the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace.
And those around the Messenger of God had already stood by him,
So only the king of Ghassan remained in the Levant.
We were afraid that he would come to us.
I only noticed the Ansari while he was speaking.
Indeed, something has happened.
I said to him, "What is it?"
The Ghassani came and said, "Even greater than that."
The Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, divorced his wives.
I came, and suddenly there was weeping from all her rooms.
And when the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, had climbed into his small raised chamber,
And at the doorway of the alcove was a young attendant.
So I came to him and said, 'Ask permission for me,' and then I entered.
When the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, was on a mat that had an indentation on its side,
And beneath his head was a leather cushion.
Its stuffing is fiber.
And when tufts and laths are suspended,
So I mentioned what I had said to Hafsa and Umm Salama,
And Umm Salamah answered me,
Then the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, laughed.
He then remained for twenty-nine nights.
Then he came down.
