Arabic vocabulary
How to say “I intend” in Arabic, with pronunciation and real example sentences from OpenArabic texts.
قَالَ لَا، مَا أُرِيدُ أَنْ أَجُوزَ مَعَهُمْ إِلَّا قَرِيبًا
He said, "No; I do not intend to go with them except nearby."
أُرِيدُ — I intend. A first-person present verb of wanting/intending, with 'I' inside. It heads toward a goal-clause introduced by the 'to' particle next.
From: Warning Before the Battle of Badr →لَبِثْتُ سَنَةً وَأَنَا أُرِيدُ أَنْ أَسْأَلَ عُمَرَ
I waited for a year, wanting to ask Umar.
أُرِيدُ — I want. Present-tense verb 'I want' with the 'I' subject built into its prefix; inside the background clause it gives the speaker's ongoing intention. It then takes a goal-clause as what is wanted.
