إِذَا غَابَ عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ
When he was absent from the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace.
غَابَ — he was absent. A past verb 'was absent' with the single-male subject built in; under 'whenever' it reads as a repeated situation. The doer is folded into the verb.
