Arabic vocabulary
التَّرَابِ is how you say “the earth” in Arabic. Hear it pronounced and see it used in a real example sentence from classical texts below.
وَهُوَ بَاقٌ وَصَاحِبُهُ مُوَسَّدٌ تَحْتَ التَّرَابِ
And it endures, while its owner lies buried beneath the earth.
التَّرَابِ — the earth. A definite noun in the after-preposition case, governed by 'beneath' before it. Its case ending is dictated entirely by that preposition, which is why it wears the 'of'-type vowel even though in English it is just the object of 'beneath'.
