How to say “the males” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
مَاتَ مِنْ الذُّكُورِ أَرْبَعَةٌ،
Four of the males died.
الذُّكُورِ — the males. This noun is made definite by its attached 'the', and it sits in the genitive because the preceding preposition governs it. It is the whole group out of which a portion is being counted, so it depends grammatically on the word before it rather than being the subject of the dying.
