Arabic vocabulary
How to say “the morning” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
وَكَانَ يَبْعَثُ إِلَيَّ بِحَلْبَةِ الْغَدَاةِ،
And he used to send me fenugreek in the morning.
الْغَدَاةِ — the morning. This noun is the second half of an 'of' pairing with the word before it, the owner that the first noun belongs to, so together they read 'the drink of the morning'. As the owning term it sits in the governed (genitive) shape, and it is the word that actually carries the 'the', lending definiteness back to the pair. Its position and ending mark it as the possessor in the chain.
