Arabic vocabulary
How to say “the two sides” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
الَّتِي بِجَنَبَتَيْ ذَاكَ الصِّرَاطِ،
which are on the two sides of that path,
بِجَانِبَيْنِ — on the two sides. The bi- glued on the front is a 'with/on' preposition, and it forces the noun after it into the genitive (the 'after a preposition' ending). The noun itself is in the dual, Arabic's special 'exactly two' form, so the two sides are built into the word's shape rather than spelled out with a separate 'two'.
