How to say “the wise” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
وَأَنْشَدَ بَعْضُ الْحُكَمَاءِ
And some of the wise recited:
الْحُكَمَاءِ — the wise. This definite plural noun is the owning half of the 'some of ...' pair, so it sits in the 'of' (genitive) form and names the group a portion of whom recited. Its 'the' makes the whole phrase definite. It anchors the partitive expression.
