Arabic vocabulary
How to say “wait” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
أَنْتَظِرُ اِسْتِيقاظَهُمَا حَتَّى بَرَقَ الْفَجْرُ،
I waited for their awakening until the dawn brightened.
أَنْتَظِرُ — I waited. A present-tense verb with its 'I' subject inside, used here in a narrative-past sense for an ongoing wait. Standing without a 'then', it pictures the speaker held in that waiting as a continuing backdrop to what follows.
