How to say “were raised” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
نصبوا إذا إنتصبوا فنصبت لهم السرر،
They stood firm when they arose, so couches were raised for them,
فَنُصِبَتْ — so were raised. The fused front letter marks the 'so/then' result. The verb is in its passive shape, meaning the couches received the raising rather than doing it; Arabic signals the passive by changing the inner vowels of the verb, not by adding a helper word, which is why no 'were' appears as a separate word.
