Arabic vocabulary
How to say “worsened” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
وَرُبَّمَا قَوِيَتْ مَعْرِفَةُ عَالِمٍ مِنْهُمْ، وَتَفَاقَمَتْ ذُنُوبُهُ
Perhaps the knowledge of a scholar among them grew strong, while his sins worsened.
وَتَفَاقَمَتْ — and worsened. A 'wa-' fused to a past feminine verb. This 'wa-' links two simultaneous states, 'while', contrasting the growth of knowledge with the worsening of sins rather than just listing them. The verb's feminine ending agrees with its feminine subject 'sins' that follows, and the pairing sets up a pointed clash.
