How to say “a little over” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
وَعَدَدُهُمْ نَيِّفٌ عَلَى الْعِشْرِينَ قَارِئًا،
And their number was a little over twenty reciters,
نَيِّفٌ — a little over. A noun meaning 'an excess / a few more', the predicate completing 'their number was a bit over...'. It takes the subject-style ending as the predicate of the verbless sentence. It sets up the over-twenty count delivered by the words that follow.
