Arabic vocabulary
How to say “a period” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
إِلَّا فِي أَيَّامِ الْجِهَادِ وَقَبْلَهَا بِمُدَّةٍ
Except during the days of jihad and for some time before them.
بِمُدَّةٍ — for a period. Here 'bi-' is a preposition fused to the front of the noun, and it forces the 'of...' (genitive) shape on it. In this measuring sense it marks an amount or extent rather than 'with' an instrument, so the phrase reads as 'by a stretch of time'. The noun also stays indefinite, leaving the exact length unspecified.
