Arabic vocabulary
How to say “a prisoner” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
أَرْبَعِينَ وَمِائَةً سَبْعِينَ أَسِيرًا
Two hundred and ten prisoners.
أَسِيرًا — prisoners. A singular counted noun 'captive' kept singular on purpose, because after a large compound number Arabic uses one counted item with a special indefinite object ending. English makes it plural 'prisoners', but the Arabic counts 'so-many of captive'.
