Arabic vocabulary
How to say “as if I were” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
فَإِنَّيَ إِنْ رَأَيْتُ شَيْئًا أَخَافُ عَلَيْكَ قُمْتُ كَأَنَّيَ أُرِيقُ الْمَاءَ،
Whenever I saw anything that made me fear for you, I would stand up as if I were pouring water,
كَأَنَّيَ — as if I were. A 'as if' comparison particle fused with the attached 'I', opening a make-believe clause. It sets up a pretense — looking as though doing one thing while really doing another — with the speaker as its subject.
