Arabic vocabulary
How to say “be hidden” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
وَمَنْ خُفِّيَ عُقُوبَاتُهُمْ سَلْبُ حَلَاوَةِ الْمُنَاجَاةِ،
And among their hidden punishments is the deprivation of the sweetness of private supplication.
خُفِّيَ — were hidden. This is the passive of the verb 'to hide': the action is reported without naming who hides it, with focus on the punishments being concealed. Arabic forms this passive by changing the verb's internal vowels rather than adding a helper word, and the doubled middle consonant marks the intensive 'thoroughly hidden' pattern.
