How to say “be time” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
ثُمَّ قَالَ أَلَمْ يَأْنِ لِلرَّحِيلِ
Then he said, "Is it not time to depart?"
يَأْنِ — be time. A present-shaped verb meaning 'to be time/due', here read as a negated past because of the 'lam' before it and clipped into its special ending. The whole thing asks whether the time for departure has not yet come. The clipped ending is the verb's response to the negator, not a separate tense.
