Arabic vocabulary
How to say “betrayed them” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
فَخَانَتْهُمْ أَحْرَصَ مَا كَانُوا عَلَيْهَا،
So the very thing they had been most eager for betrayed them.
فَخَانَتْهُمْ — so betrayed them. The fa- prefix marks the result, 'and so'. The verb is past tense, 'betrayed', with the object -hum ('them') fused on the end. Its subject is the 'thing they were most eager for', named in the words that follow, so the verb waits for its doer to be spelled out.
