How to say “brother” in Arabic, with pronunciation and real example sentences from OpenArabic texts.
الْمُسْلِمُ أَخُو الْمُسْلِمِ،
A Muslim is the brother of another Muslim.
أَخُو — brother. 'Brother of', the predicate, heading an 'of' pairing. It belongs to the small set of nouns that show case with a long vowel, here the '-u' of the nominative predicate.
From: Brotherhood in Islam →المسلم أخو المسلم، لا يظلمه، ولا يخذله ولا يحقره
A Muslim is the brother of a Muslim; he does not oppress him, nor does he abandon him or look down upon him.
أَخُو — is the brother. This is 'brother' as the first half of a possessive pairing with the noun that follows, 'brother of the Muslim', joined directly with no word for 'of'. Its special pairing-form (it drops the usual final marker before its owner) signals that another noun owns it.
